| Celebrating our 20th Anniversary Benefit Gala |
The American-Italian Cancer Foundation held its 20th Anniversary Benefit Gala on Monday, November 12, 2001 at the Pierre Hotel in New York City. During the evening's ceremonies, the Foundation honored Professor Umberto Veronesi, MD, Scientific Director of the European Institute of Oncology and the former Italian Minister of Health, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Maurizio Ponz de Leon from the University of Modena, Italy and Dr. Bernard Levin from MD Anderson Cancer Research Center received the awards for Scientific Excellence in Medicine.
Nicola Bulgari, Vice Chairman of Bulgari Group, was the event Chair, and Dr. David Parkinson, Vice President of Novartis Oncology was the Co-chair. The annual benefit gala raised more than 1.7 million dollars to support the American-Italian Cancer Foundation's programs.
The
highlight of the gala was the unveiling of the Maserati Spyder, for the first
time in the United States, donated by Ferrari. The winning bidder will travel
to the factory in Maranello, Italy to pick up the AICF special edition car.
