Chrstina Sachs 3.jpgChristina Sachs participated in the Nashville Country Music Marathon in 2006 as a freshman at Vanderbilt University, raising thousands of dollars for AICF.  "When I first began training for the marathon, I knew I wanted to run for a cause.  After learning about AICF's mobile mammography van for medically underserved women in New York City, I decided to help."

Christina drew strength from a fellow runner at a time when some marathoners hit the wall.  "I was at mile 23, struggling, when a young man ran up alongside me.  Panting, he said, "I'm Italian.  My mom had breast cancer.  Thank you for wearing that shirt."  It is then that I realized I was truly making a difference.  To cross the finish line knowing that through my efforts, lives could be saved through the early detection of breast cancer--it was the most rewarding experience of my life."

Christina thanks those who sponsored her participation in the marathon through generous donations, notes, cookies, and cheers along the course of the race.  "Knowing that so many people made an effort to support me was inspiring."
